How To Set Good and Balanced Goals

How to set good and balanced goals in your business. How creatives avoid burnout.

Something that I try to do at the beginning of every month is reflecting on the last month and setting new goals for the upcoming month. Goals are extremely important and they help me to prioritize what I think is important for me personally and for my small business. One thing that I have learned over the last year is to make sure my goals are a good balance. What I mean by finding a “good balance” is making goals that push you, but aren’t too much that they aren’t attainable. Goals should be hard but not impossible.

A couple months ago, I was creating goals that weren’t attainable in the slightest. They were causing me to become frustrated and disappointed instead of feeling the accomplishment of achieving them. One podcast on goals that I love is from Tara over at Rad & Happy. In one of the early episodes of the Rad & Happy Podcast, Tara talks about working up to achieving big goals. She says that you should start with something simple and do it each day until it becomes a habit and then you can expand on that. I highly recommend giving her podcast a listen!

For me personally, creating goals each month that will push me but are not impossible is what works. I’ve started using a bullet journal to help track my goals and it has helped me feel accomplished. Whenever I get to fill in a bubble for that day or whenever I get to check something off my list, it makes me feel proud of completing that task.

Goals are important and in my opinion, they should be a part of each person’s routine. Whether that includes daily goals, monthly goals, yearly goals, or even goals for the next ten years. My point is, creating something that you’re working towards can help you stay focused and can improve the positive feelings after achieving those goals.
