Looking Back
Over the last couple months, I have been spending a lot more time behind the camera. When I decided to focus more of my time and energy towards bettering my social media, I began using my Nikon to shoot mock ups, posts, and flat lays. Over spring break, I brought my camera along to capture the charming city of Charleston and I did several grad shoots as the school year came to an end. Photography is where my artistic journey really began and returning back to this medium has been a nice refresher.
Growing up, my mom was always capturing everything on her Nikon and I remember wanting to be just like her. I took my first photography class my freshmen year of high school in 2013. Over my high school years, I took three photography classes and completed two independent studies. This opened the door for me to learn photoshop and eventually move onto illustrator where I fell in love with logo development.
I shot on my mom’s old Nikon throughout high school and was given a new one of my own after graduation. I sort of took an unintentional break from photography over the last couple years except for breaking it out on a couple occasions. I am a huge fan of creating goals, both long-term and short-term, and I am making spending more time behind the camera one of those goals for the rest of the summer. I think it is so important to experiment in different mediums and pay tribute to the things that got you to where you are. Without getting into photography, I may not have found graphic design. As cheesy as it sounds, I need to give photography the respect that it deserves as it has made such an impact in my life!
